The time has come to close my blog. It's been fun, it's been real! Hope everyone has a great summer. MY BLOG IS NOW CLOSED

Learning

The semester is just about over! During the Semester I have had the opportunity to work in all the Microsoft Office programs and I have learned a great deal. I had the most fun putting my website together! I learned all about excel and how to utilize it in a classroom setting. This is going to be a great tool for the future. This class will definitely benefit me for the future.

2nd Website Review

Anna Grantham's website is about her favorite recipes. This was a great website for me to review being that there are new recipes on there that I have not tried before. She did a great job on the website and all the coding. One thing I noticed that was missing was the link back to her index.html from her other pages. It's a pretty simple fix to make! Thanks for the recipes Anna.

Website Review

Adrienne Brown's Website is really neat. The appearance of each page is very eye catching with the colors that she used. I looked through her code and didn't see too many issues. A couple problems that could be fixed easily are the naming of her pages and the link back to her homepage from each page. The main page needs to be named index.html. Each picture and webpage can only have letters and numbers in the name of the page; one specification the name must meet is that there should not be any spaces in the names of the pages or the pictures. Be sure to add the button to each page that links back to your homepage (index.html). To do this you would need to take out the button for the actual page you were on and replace it with your index.html link. Overall, I really like the webpage. I can't wait to have a life when school is over this semester! Great job Adrienne!

Seymour Papert

Seymour Papert is known for informing others how technology can provide new ways to learn. He is known world wide and has completed educational projects on just about every continent. Papert now lives in Maine and works at a youth center in Portland.

After researching some other sites on the net, I found that Seymour is a mathematician as well. He is also a founder of two labs: Artificial Intelligence Lab and the MIT Media Lab. He has come up with some pretty crazy ideas on how the education system should be changed.Click Hereto learn more about Seymour Papert.

Ipod's

Ipod's are a pretty neat tool to use in all different types of settings. Not only are the Ipods used for music they are being used in classroom settings for lectures, transporting large media files, pictures and much more.

The particular website that I referenced above talks about how a student at Duke University was able to download a lecture from a guest speaker. He was able to listen to the lecture on either his computer or on his Ipod, he did not have to sit at the computer he was able to be mobile. This is a great thing, I can't stand sitting still! While searching for this information I read that all students at Duke received a new Ipod when entering the college! I think I am going to transfer!!

Speadsheets

The use of spreadsheets in the classroom has been a large part of a classroom setting. Using spreadsheets allows for the students to analyze data with a visual perspective. Even for myself it's much easier to analyze data if I can see it. In most cases using spreadsheets allows for repetitive tasks to be complete in minutes. Spreadsheets have so many different uses and functions in the classroom!

Spreadsheets on this particular website are used to allow the students record their data on spinning coins. Once all the data is entered there is a lot of information that can be taken from all of this data. Check out the website to see the graph that resulted from the data.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras for me was just another day. I did absolutely nothing, all the stuff that was happening took no effect on me! Only because my sis and my brother in law went on vacation to Colorado and I was in charge of my niece, the dogs and taking care of the house. But yet, I was sick as a dog! Here is a pic I took of Cadence while they were on vacation. She is just starting to eat by herself, she looks so proud doesn't she?

International Blogs

This first international blog is based out of Austrailia. It is a blog that is used to talk about the thoughts and opinions of this particular school and what they do in a years time. Check out this pic...is this going to happen to me after I am a teacher for so many years? Click here to view the site

International Blog #2
The second blog I found was use to allow kids, ages 16-18 to talk about and learn about topics that they may not talk about in everyday life. An English teacher at a Technical school started this blog and encourages kids from all over the world to chat on this blog. I think this is a great idea, many kids don't have exposure to children in other countries, this is a great way to step outside the box! Italy's Blog

24 Hour Bug

I feel really bad for anyone who gets this wonderful 24 hour bug that is going around. Unfortunately, I was the lucky one to get this bug. I have been laid up since 5pm last night...I am not just starting to feel better. I am supposed to be watching my niece for the next couple days because her parents went on vacation and I had to pawn her off to her grandmother because I have been so sick! Yea I know what you are thinking, what a crappy Aunt! LOL. Well if you go get it, drink lots of fluids and get lots of rest.

Rainy Day

Did anyone want to sleep in today? I think my alarm went off for at least 30 minutes this morning. I wanted to stay in bed and sleep all day because of the rain! I guess it's better than the snow my parents are getting. Let me know if you want to see more snow pics.

SNOW

Here is a current picture of Sandy Creek, NY! This is my dad on top of a 7ft snowbank. Lets put it this way, normally it takes him 45 minutes to get home from work and it took him 5 1/2 hours on Tuesday night because of the snow. They are still getting more as we speak and they are talking about 3ft more before next week. Be glad that you are here, that is if you don't like the snow! I want to be there! Enjoy.

Blogs in Schools

5th Grade Blog

It was a little more difficult than I thought it was going to be to find the use of blogs in a school on the Internet! I did find some though. In the first particular Blog I found, A 5th grade teacher uses the blog to keep parents informed of what is happening in the classroom. There is also information about homework, and accomplishments of the class during the week. There aren't very many comments on the blog, but it is still a resource to the parents and children of her class. There are no pictures on this particular blog. Click the link above to check it out. Be sure to browse with the hyperlinks on the right hand side of the page.

Blog #2

The second blog I found was definitely much better than the first one! This blog is based out of Whitefish Bay in Wisconsin. This blog includes lots of pictures and websites that the kids can use for homework or just for fun. This teacher also includes newsletters for the parents to keep them up to date. There is a lot of information on this site, it looks like the blog was created awhile back in Jan. 2004. She does a great job putting all the information up!

The Weather

I am really starting to have very little faith in the meteorologists! They said on the local weather this AM that it was supposed to be at least 60 degrees today and I just saw that it is 47 degrees! I should have known to bring my sweatshirt! I always go to WKRG to get the local weather. I am having second thoughts now!

Sandy Creek

I was just searching the web for current snow pictures from my hometown, and I came across this video. This is the street where the school I went to is located. If you watch closely, you will see the school on the right hand side of the street. Only people from the creek would snow board behind a snowmobile! Blogging

The blog that we created in this class is my first 'real' blog. I think that it could be a very useful tool in many cases. I don't really have too much to write about that is going to be useful information for everyone. I like to write more than a sentence when I do a post!

I think this could be a good tool for conveying information in a high school classroom because computers are so resourceful now. Children spend more time on the computers than they spend doing anything else. If they are not on facebook or myspace then they are having to do research for class! It's a fast way to provide information including, pictures and web links. Using the web, especially blogs may also hinder kids from getting the social, face to face, contact that they need. Sometimes it is harder to convey a message or ask a question when you are not face to face with a person or teacher. The words that one may use could be intrepreted in numerous ways.

Overall, blogging is fun, and is a useful way to present information. I think if we had a topic to discuss that lead into a threaded discussion it would be more useful!

Cadi-Bug

My niece has to have surgery on her tear duct tomorrow. She is only 10 months old, but it's better to have it done now rather than in the future. The doc's have to put her under for a total of 5 to 10 minutes and than take care of the procedure and then they bring her back up with oxygen. What a stressful day for the little baby girl.

Weekend

Thank goodness the weekend is coming up. I feel exhausted this week for some reason, maybe it's the weather...but I like this weather, so I think it would make me more energetic. Between coaching, school and other daily activities, it's hard finding time for myself. Can anyone else relate to that?
